Shower Tiling and Niche

A modern shower should be a sanctuary, a place of daily ritual that feels both luxurious and flawlessly functional. This project highlights our specialist skills in wetroom construction, focusing on the two most critical elements: invisible waterproofing and visible precision. The centrepiece of this design is the recessed shower niche, a feature that exemplifies high-end, custom-built design.

Before any tile was laid, our primary focus was on "tanking," or comprehensive waterproofing. This is the single most important stage in any wetroom. We installed waterproof tile-backer boards on all walls and the shower floor. Then, we applied a full liquid-rubber membrane system, paying meticulous attention to reinforcing every joint, corner, and screw head with waterproof tape. This process creates a monolithic, sealed "tank" that guarantees no water can ever penetrate the structure of the home.

The recessed niche, while now a hallmark of luxury design, is a significant technical challenge. It must be perfectly framed, insulated (if on an exterior wall), and, most importantly, completely waterproofed as part of the main tanking system. A crucial, often-overlooked detail is that our team builds every niche with a subtle, 2-degree slope on the bottom sill. This ensures water actively drains out, preventing pooling, soap build-up, and mildew.

For the tiling, the client selected a large-format, textured porcelain tile. We meticulously planned the layout so that the grout lines would be perfectly symmetrical around the niche, creating a clean, intentional look. The niche itself was finished with a polished stainless-steel trim to define the edges sharply. The precision cutting required to fit the tiles perfectly within the niche and around the high-end shower controls demonstrates our team's commitment to a flawless finish. The result is a seamless, spa-like shower that is as structurally sound as it is beautiful, with a functional niche that provides elegant storage without clutter.
